IFTTT stands for “If this then that”. It is a new generation of services that allows you to setup recipes that trigger events. For example, I have one setup that tells me when Apple’s stock price drops below $300. When that happens, it sends me an email. Anther is this post. When I publish it it is supposed to then post to my Facebook Fan page for Axis Tech. Lets see if that works.
The Librarian of Congress decided in October 2012 that unlocking of cell phones would be removed from the exceptions to the DMCA.
As of January 26, consumers will no longer be able unlock their phones for use on a different network without carrier permission, even after their contract has expired.
Consumers will be forced to pay exorbitant roaming fees to make calls while traveling abroad. It reduces consumer choice, and decreases the resale value of devices that consumers have paid for in full.
The Librarian noted that carriers are offering more unlocked phones at present, but the great majority of phones sold are still locked.
We ask that the White House ask the Librarian of Congress to rescind this decision, and failing that, champion a bill that makes unlocking permanently legal.
“I just wanted to thank you again for your help putting together my computer so last min. It worked amazingly well at 17,500ft. No issues what so ever. Turns out the solid state was a really good call. The original drive that came in the computer was used as a back up drive, it crashed the first day in base camp – the only casualty of the trip (a seagate drive). ”
